Video from the Basis Launch at Health 2.0 San Francisco 2011
Revisiting the Health 2.0 Fall Conference this past September, here’s a video of Basis CEO Jef Holove launching the company’s new health monitor watch. Basis developed a lightweight device that tracks and records health data including heart rate, calories burned, elevated physical activity and sleep. “We’re seeing new ways of visualizing data, we’re seeing powerful ways of sorting through data, but I’ll argue that none of that matters until we solve the first problem which is getting that data to begin with,” Holove said at the conference. The band is designed to be worn 24/7 so personal data is continuously collected. Then it’s wirelessly sent to a personal cloud-based dashboard. Basis was one of ten companies to introduce its product at the conference, and audience members voted it their favorite. So far the device has only been available in a private beta program, but it is expected to be released to the public by the end of the year.
