Video from the 1 + 1 Labs Launch at Health 2.0 San Francisco 2011
Thomas Goetz, executive editor of Wired Magazine, took to the Health 2.0 main stage twice this year, first to join a panel discussion on personalized health and, second, to launch his new Health 2.0 software. Here Goetz demos 1 + 1 Labs, a program that redesigns lab reports with explanations and visuals so that patients can better make sense of their data. Goetz explains that he was frustrated from constantly hearing that health data is too complicated for patients to understand. Then he realized he agreed. “Health data is too complicated the way we give it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do better,” he said. The program is designed eliminate the need for doctors to give lengthy explanations of lab reports. These are hard to come by when the average doctor visit is just 18 minutes. If patients can walk in the office with an understanding of their report, they can make the most of their visit by asking the right questions. 1 + 1 Labs also provides feedback to help patients make informed decisions when it comes to their health.
