Only Two Weeks Left in the Leading Health Indicators App Challenge!
On October 31, 2011, the Office of National Coordinator for Health IT and the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion collatborated to launch the Leading Health Indicators App Challenge in support of the Healthy People 2020 initiative. It’s been four months and there are now only two weeks left to enter your submission!
Healthy People 2020 provides science-based, ten-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. The Leading Health Indicators are a select dozen topics with objectives intended to communicate high-priority health issues and actions that can be taken to address them. This challenge tasks developers with creating apps that make it easy for the public to use and learn from the indicators.
The ways that applications could be successful are limitless, and include tools that integrate:
- Health topic areas, measures and evidence-based resources of interest
- Community, county and state health status comparisons
- Real-time communication tools to stay in touch with peers
- Educational curricula to teach health promotion and disease prevention
- Related news, analyses and blogs from outside resources
ONC and ODPHP are looking for the most innovative approaches that use the leading health indicators to solve the nation’s priority health problems. Multiple prizes will be awarded for the top submissions, including $10,000 and the opportunity to demo at the 2012 National Health Promotion Summit for the first place winner.
Do you have a great idea? Submissions are March 9, 2012. More details are available here.
