I’m Growing a Mustache (And So Should You)
Edbury here. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m one of Health 2.0’s Brooklyn-based developers. Another thing you may not know is that Brooklyn hipsters love two things: mustaches and making a difference in health care.
It’s not very often that these interests overlap, which is why I’m excited for Movember.
Sometimes it’s hard to feel like you’re really making an impact. It’s even less often that you can contribute to a great cause by growing an impressive soup strainer. For the month of November, I’m joining people all over the world in growing a mustache to raise awareness and funding for men’s health programs, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. If you’d like more details, you can check out the “Programs We Fund” section of Movember site.
Now, I’m going to go ahead and shamelessly ask you for two things. First, head over to the Movember site and make a donation. Second, while you’re there, commit to growing a nose neighbor this month and do your part for men’s health. That link will take you to the page for Health 2.0’s, which I implore you all to join!
To highlight the importance of what we’re doing, take a look at these statistics:
- 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
- This year 242,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed
- This year 8,290 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer
I have no doubt most of you are familiar with those numbers already. They’re still scary, aren’t they? Let’s make a dent.
I’ll be back here every week with an awesome mustache update and a reminder to do your part.
Our editor, Laura Montini, has already put $15 in the pot, so match her donation and get growing!
Movember is a registered 501 (c)(3) charity, donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
