The Grad Student Perspective: Getting Going on Your Data Analysis

Last month at Health:Refactored, Health 2.0’s conference for designers and developers, David Kale stepped off campus and into the world of consumer data while moderating the panel “Dreaming of Data: Big, Open & Interoperable.” Kale is a first year PhD student at the University of Southern California, studying machine learning and data mining. Before going back to school he spent three years in the data-packed environment of the Virtual Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In this video he explains his vision for clinical decision support that’s less like Simon Says and more like Netflix, and he discusses how to get the momentum going on a data analysis project.
