Hearst Corporation’s health care group, Hearst Health, acquired CareInSync, which developed CareBook, a real-time, mobile platform that facilitates care coordination and communication between care providers and patients. CareInSync, will become part of Zynx Health.
A new pilot study at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA found that 60 patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes were adherent to and enthusiastic about self-monitoring their vision with a mobile app, but the study was not able to quantitatively demonstrate a health effect from the intervention.
Sotera Wireless, makers of an FDA-approved wearable sensor system, raised $20 million in equity, securities, and options. This brings their total announced funding to almost $50 million. The filing also shows that Sotera hopes to raise another $33 million.
Cigna released results from a comparative study of its consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) members to its other members enrolled in traditional PPOs and HMOs. The study found that 75 percent of CDHP members signed up for access to an online patient portal or mobile app. CDHP members are also 82 percent more likely to use online tools to manage their health benefits and to choose highly rated and cost efficient providers.
Facebook acquired Finland-based fitness app maker Protogeo. The company’s app, Moves, passively tracks a user’s daily activity using the phone’s built-in accelerometer in order to provide all-day tracking without killing the phone’s battery.
Practice Fusion launched its Population Health Management platform in collaboration with Merck. The platform provides a real-time dashboard that compares providers’ patient population, to give a quantified view of vaccination rates among their adult patients, based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
