Louis was tackling big data before the term was coined. As founder and CTO of the AltaVista search engine, he is widely considered one of the fathers of Web search. Louis ran research for eBay, expanded his expertise in search and text mining at Google, and founded a number of start-ups. At Kyron he is working on moving medicine into a data-driven future by analyzing patient data collected by medical facilities, and learning patterns that lead to better outcomes. At Health 2.0 he demonstrated how a virtual clinical trial can run at the speed of a Google query.
