This session demonstrated how patient centered tools, technologies and design are helping patients take control over their health for better outcomes and communication with providers. Leaders in the patient movement, Maria Gjerpe and Charlie Young addressed the audience with their research and work in the field of patient empowerment and shared their stories of successfully engaging the health care system as a patient.
The Dutch Cancer Society aims to give cancer patients the best of both worlds in providing a platform that combines the expertise of physicians, and the discussion boards and experiences of fellow patients. By making these two distinct yet helpful types of content easily available, patients can experience and engage their treatment, their understanding of their illness, and access a large support network.
