Moderated by Indu Subaiya, Big Data: Tools and Applications for Individuals showcased the technology companies are creating to harness consumer data in order to make more informed decisions regarding health care. Speakers included Marvin Ammori, Jerry Sheehan, and Ben Wolin, joined by demos from ESRI, Treato, Moving Analytics, Withings, and MedHelp.
For the past decade, as a lawyer, Marvin Ammori has been involved in many of the most important and prominent public policy issues concerning the Internet’s future, he played an instrumental role in opposing proposed copyright legislation known as SOPA and PIPA, and recently authored the book, On Internet Freedom. Recently, he’s taken his first dive into the startup world with Silica Labs, which helps innovators build revolutionary software for wearable technology, specifically Google Glass. As an example of one application, Marvin spoke on using Google Glass in tangent with Zephyr, which would allow a medic in a battle field to access a person’s vitals quickly and hand-free. Marvin was named among 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2012 by Fast Company Magazine.
