CTO at the VA since June 2009, Peter has already overseen the radically successful VA Innovation Challenge, the famous–and now expanded to everyone–Blue Button initiative, and the VAi2 challenge grant funds. And then there’s that little VA project called VistA. At Health 2.0 Europe 2012 Peter shared his perspective on the role of entrepreneurs in health IT ecosystems around the world and specifically for healthcare giant players like the VA.
With over 20 online challenges and 6 code-a-thon events across the country, 2011 has been the year where the challenge model has brought innovation to health care. Under the rubric of the America COMPETES Act, ONC has contracted with Health 2.0 to run its Investing in Innovation i2 Challenge series. The Health 2.0 Developer Challenge continues with both HHS and private sector challenges. In the video above, see the winners from both the online Challenges and the live code-a-thons. And hear about several brand new challenges being launched with significant prizes.
The Health 2.0 Developer Challenge was announced in June 2010 as a result of the Community Health Data Initiative. Since it’s announcement, it’s created 10+ challenges and dozens of teams working on them. This session will highlight a handful of the winners, with information about the future of innovation in Health 2.0.
Peter Levin, Chief Technology Officer, Veterans Affairs
You might possibly expect to meet an electrical engineer, GPS expert, computer scientist, semiconductor company CEO, venture capitalist, CBO policy analyst, academic dean, and nationwide health system CTO at Health 2.0. But you’d be bit surprised to find they were all one person. CTO at the VA since June 2009, Peter has already overseen the radically successful VA innovation challenge, Blue Button initiative and the VAi2 challenge grant funds. And then there’s that little VA project called VistA. In this video Peter talks about that hopefully not unmentionable topic of suicide among our nation’s veterans. This talk was given during the “Yet More and Different Unmentionables” panel at the San Francisco Health 2.0 conference in 2011.
